#AONO20: Get Up Get Off · Twista · Shahin Badar

Continuing our series of posts in honor of the 20th anniversary of the album ‘Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned’ by The Prodigy, today we delve into the story behind the creation of the track ‘Get Up Get Off’ – Liam Howlett’s collaboration with American rapper Twista, Shahin Badar and Juliette Lewis. Not too much information is known about the creation and recording of the track, so as with our previous article on the remix of ‘Casanova’, we will publish this one for our patrons only.

Looking at Get Up Get Off with a fresh eye, one can notice that the track became a sort of a precursor of grime, albeit with a distinctive American twist. It is quite possible that Liam Howlett drew inspiration from the burgeoning sound that was making waves in London around that time. The track was worked on in the very beginning of 2004, as Twista was not mentioned in an interview with Neko in late 2003, nor was Shahin Badar and Juliette Lewis. Lewis came to London only in early 2004, and the fact that she was also involved in the recording of the track with Twista only became known in May.

NME: A spokesperson for the singer and actress confirmed she put in performances on tracks ‘Hot Ride’, ‘Spit Fire’ and ‘Twista’. Lewis says the new material is part of a new phase for the British dance rockers.
