Memphis Bells – The Prodigy’s very first web-release. A dedicated website www.alwaysoutnumbered.com was set up where users could make their own version of the track, choosing from 3 beat options, 8 melody options and 11 guitar options. This meant a maximum of 264 possible versions of the track!

Note: Although the promotional material had suggested nearly 10000 possible version of the track, all versions other than the original 264 differed only in terms of mastering and mixing. As it later transpired, due to the huge buzz and influx of visitors in the first few minutes after sales began, the server couldn’t cope with the load and the website crashed. Over the day, they managed to sort things out, and track sales were handled manually by the administrator. In the end, barely 1000 tracks were sold, many of which were identical, differing only in their titles. It’s safe to say that not all 264 different versions of the track were released, and at best, they’re still stored somewhere in Liam’s archives.
