April Fools’ Day #1 • List of fakes!

Over the last 30-odd years, there have been many myths, fake tracks pretending to be the band’s work, and other fan confusions around the band’s production. Today, in honor of April Fools’ Day, we have decided to debunk some of them. But before, watch dis! 😀

To begin, we have compiled a list of fake tracks that pretend to be the band’s work but have nothing to do with it, even though in some places they may seem to be of high quality. This list consists of fictional tracks that have been passed off as the band’s work (not reworks, remakes, or attempts to recreate real existing tracks).

LOL

Aside from those tracks where the authors of the tracks themselves or the authors of publications in the network deliberately misled the public, there are also real recordings of various tracks from actual live gigs of the band that have nothing to do with the band’s works. These are simply short fillers aka ‘fills’: loops and cuts of other artist’s tracks that were played by Liam, and which people often confuse and pass off as unreleased Prodigy tracks.

Original source: Turkey In The Straw
Note: On June 26th, 2006, in the WFMU’s Beware of the Blog several mp3s of ice cream van melodies were posted. Among these was a file called ‘Pink Panther Pops = Awesome’ which is an interpretation of the folk song ‘Turkey In The Straw’. It’s unknown who has chosen it and where it’s been found, but this melody can be heard at the end of every single video produced by Dugdale. Sometimes it would be played as an outro at gigs in 2009, for example, at Rock am Ring ’09 festival.

Purposely or mistakenly made up titles of tracks, that have been mentioned in articles or fan sources.

FICTITIOUS TRACKS
COLLABORATION WITH ‘CORKY’
NOTE: Mistake by an Icelandic journalist who misunderstood Liam’s words about his collaboration with Kool Keith.
BARREL OF A GUN (THE PRODIGY REMIX) DEPECHE MODE
NOTE: Fictitious title or mistake from non-official The Prodigy book.
NO SOUVENIRS (LEEROY THORNHILL REMIX)
NOTE: Fictitious remix. Leeroy confirmed that he had never worked on this track and had no idea where the rumours came from.
TO THE END
NOTE: Fictitious unreleased track from AONO times, which was allegedly mentioned by Liam in a 2004 interview for KORG: “Also, it has this cool noise like a Human League noise that came out on To The End and Spitfire.”
Apparently, this interview was recorded to audio and then transcribed into text for the printed version. And someone who was responsible for the transfer from audio format to written text – just fucked up and didn’t understand Liam’s speech about how he’s using microKORG at the very end of Spitfire track: “Also, it has this cool noise like a Human League noise that came out into the end in Spitfire.”
